SHAMISA DEBROEY
About me
Shamisa Debroey graduated in 2011 from the infamous Sint Lukas Brussels. She received an MA in Comics and finished top of her class.
She published her first graphic novel ‘Verdwaald’ by Oog & Blik / De Bezige Bij in 2013, merging the autobiographical with her lively imagination.
Shamisa currently works as an illustrator and comic artist, for clients like Apple, Samsung, één, De Standaard, De Morgen, Focus Knack and many more.
She expands her work as an illustrator with live performances, talks about diversity in comics and organizes inclusive, artistic projects.
In 2019 she curated two artpieces for Passa Porta festival.
In 2016 she won the Jong Aanstormend Talent prijs, presented by deAuteurs.
In 2017 the African Artist Award by the African Movie Festival of Leuven.
In 2018 she had the honor of being the resident artist at ELCAF festival together with her best friend and co-founder of YUMYUM: Charlotte Dumortier.
She has published two children's books with Horizon & Rose Stories.
